Good Friday, the choir and soloists of St. Mary’s will present Rossini’s vocal/choral masterpiece – Stabat Mater. This powerful composition is a very operatic setting of the sacred poetry that describes the emotions of Mary, the mother of Jesus, as she stands beside the cross.
The intense demands made upon the soloists and instruments, cause this composition to be seldom performed. Gordon Turk has assembled a sensational quartet of soloists who join the choir in this dramatic performance, and he will conduct and play his transcription of the orchestra score for organ accompaniment with timpani.
